If you have a boss who is just going to pay you no matter how you perform or what other people think of you then you really have no use for anchoring.

Anchoring for persuasion gives you an advantage over everyone else who is in competition for a job, raise, car, negotiation or even a date.

How does it do that?

Your brain is a prediction machine that also happens to be a bit lazy. While it is amazing at problem solving it would rather not if it can avoid it.

In the first few moments your brain judges and categorizes the people you meet based upon your previous experience with that KIND of person. What is bizarre is it uses ANY bit of information it has no matter how valid or invalid.

READ THAT AGAIN! Any bit of information.

So here is the list if stuff your brain uses that has no real information about who you really are.

Hair color
Posture
Remind them of someone from their past
Voice tone
Nose shape
Clothing
Body language
Weight
Eye shape
Attractiveness
Smell
Car
Shoes
and 50 other things that are really irrelevant.

None of which has anything to do with YOU or your ABILITY.

This can give you a tremendous benefit if you remind them of someone they LIKE. Unfortunately the brain is more interested in avoiding danger than it is finding friends. In those first few minutes it is sorting for danger more than connection.

What can you do?

You need to take charge of the other person’s lazy brain and give it the feelings you want it to have towards you instead of where it decides to go on its own. You do that by getting the person you are meeting to have a specific set of feelings and then attaching this feeling to you.

When you do that you the other person is more than happy to follow along since you are doing exactly what their brain likes. You are putting YOURSELF in a category so it does not have to.

That way you STAND OUT…. see what I mean now? If you are in a job where you need to stand out and get promoted then you need this skill. If you want to get a job that lots of other people want then you need this skill. Even if you want a date from someone that other people want you NEED this skill.

This is the kind of thing that can change your life in every area.

I know what you are thinking… “Tom I don’t believe you… I am not that easily led and my brain is not lazy”. Yeah I hear it all the time.

Listen… If you think about it, everyone has something that they want in their life that they just know would make them happier if they could have it right now… You know you what these things are for you. Everyone does.

Did you just imagine what that would be for you? Well I know you did. Your brain could not help it. The second I made the statement your brain had to make sense of it and to understand it your brain had to find an example to compare it to.

Oh btw it was a good feeling… AND I could now control it and use that good feeling anytime I want.

Now imagine if I could take that feeling and connect it to…. something I want to sell you… an idea I want you to consider… my job application… something I want you to agree to…

Just imagine if I can do that in writing what is possible in person.
