What is rapport?
Rapport is a connection with a person.
Most people think of using the connection of rapport to get someone to like them, and much of the time this is true.
The truth is that you need to build the correct kind of rapport to make the person move in the direction you want them to go. You are the key to the lock.
Problem- Always feel like you are on the outside looking in? Get the feeling that you are not being understood? Tired of watching opportunities going to other people?
Story- A guy wanting to implement a program helping students learn but when submitting his proposal he kept hitting a brick wall. He tried being nice. He tried being firm. He tried being a pest yet he was getting nowhere.
Another guy decided that people would do what he wanted if he would just be demanding and pushy. It was almost aggressive, and even when it did work people would find a way to avoid dealing with him in the future unless they really had to.
A third person tried to do everything he could to get people to like him. He was agreeable, he would do favors for people, and he would never be demanding or pushy. He also was not getting people to take him seriously.
Biggest mistake in rapport…. Rapport is about being liked and being like them.
A drowning person isn’t looking for another drowning person.
A lost person is not looking for another lost person
