SOMETIMES IT IS VERY TEMPTING TO SETTLE.
I got sent this picture today from one of my nephews. He wanted to know what we thought. My question to him was “Do you like them?” His answer was something I hear all the time from people who settle: “I don’t dislike them but I would prefer X” My advice is… get what you want and don’t settle for something you just don’t dislike.
I think a lot of people have an idea of what they want but settle for having something that is, good enough or just not terrible. They have the life they want but then they settle for the life that is good enough and they are just not very happy. Settling is very tempting. It is almost always the wrong decision.
Right now I am looking at trucks. I need something that can pull 12,000 pounds. The other day I looked at one that almost fit what I needed. The price was right. It could tow a house. Not in bad shape, and low milage, but…It was lifted, so it sat way up in the air. It had aftermarket wheels that I believed would not haul well. Then we found rust under the bed of the truck. Still part of me was looking for a way that this would work for us. I am sick of looking for trucks and this might be… good enough.
It would be a mistake. I passed on the truck because it actually is not what I am looking for. As a broad rule: settling is almost always bad.
I see people every day settling for a life they don’t really want. It is just good enough. Our business is built around getting people the life they really want instead of the one they are settling for.
What have you been settling for?
