I began my adventure in self-improvement much like many other people. I was not satisfied with my life and wanted more. So I set out into the jungle of self-help with nothing but a desire and an open mind. It lead me into some very weird directions. I had heard that I could become powerful by looking into alternative ways of thinking.

At first it all seemed quite logical. I had to go off the beaten path and into the land where more things were possible. My first adventure lead me into the land of new age thinking. This is where things like “The Secret” and “The Law of Attraction” dwell. While these products are quite new the concepts behind them are decades old. All you have to do is believe and have happy thoughts and your life will be wonderful. If your life is not wonderful then the universe is trying to teach you a lesson. It seemed like a new concept but it also sounded a lot like many religions I had looked into. BTW….never mention that point to a new age believer.

Now add the idea that crystals and objects could guard you from bad energy or enhance good energy. Then add in some astrology, runes, candles and magical thinking for good measure. I understand the good intentions of this, but after a while I could see that it was not working for me.

Then I was off to the land of positive thinking. All I had to do was stay positive and see the good in every situation. My collection of books came from a very interesting source…..foreclosed houses. Yes, I was working remodeling houses that had been foreclosed on. When we went in to do the estimates on fixing them up, there was always a pile of stuff that the previous owners left behind. So I have a ton of books and get rich quick programs that obviously don’t work. I gave it an honest shot, but again all I really accomplished was becoming more annoying to be around.

My next stop was to learn hypnosis. As I entered that realm I encountered people who claimed to have super powers. The could make people do things. They could have photographic memories. They could cure disease. They could control their healing. Wow…I was sure I had found the answer I was looking for. While some people I met were quite reasonable, there were others who were delusional. They began to really believe they were super heroes with special powers.  They held seminars where they said that you could become a super hero too.

Through all of this I  found myself surrounded by people who desperately wanted to get some sense of power in their lives. For whatever reason they felt powerless. They had no control of what was going on in their lives. They were victims of whatever circumstance they found themselves in. This lead them to believe that the answer was to become super powerful. This idea was fed by self-help gurus who could charge $5000 for a week and make you into a super hero.

If you are out there and have fallen for this line of thinking, you are not alone. I fell for it for a while as well. Just look at the sales of self-help books out there, and will know how many other people are still falling for it.

It is just a natural reaction to feeling small and helpless. You assume that large and powerful has to be the answer.  If you were powerful then all your problems would be solved. I run into this problem all the time when trying to help people.  The hardest part of helping them is to get them to understand that their goal is destructive. Trying to overpower your insecurity with power just supresses the problem. It takes constant effort and reinforcement.  The insecurity or powerlessness will always be there if you don’t change it.

The biggest realization I ever had was that I don’t have to be a super powerful hero with special abilities. It is normal to have bad days. It is normal to have normal days. What is abnormal is to think that you shouldn’t ever feel bad.

When we teach people the 3D Mind, many seem to have the goal to use it to never feel bad again. That is a trap that you can’t escape from.  So what should you want to accomplish? The answer is simple….BALANCE. A balanced mind is one where you have a bad day but you don’t get stuck. You handle it. You have a problem but you solve it. You don’t HAVE to feel good all the time. You naturally feel good when appropriate. You don’t need over amplified positivity to get through the day.

I found that  worked best for me. It is why I abandoned the other methods and left the self-help jungle. The quest for power was really a quest for overpowering insecurity. The artificial power never lasted. If you think you need to have super powers to be happy you might want to think differently.

  1. And this is why you are one of my role models. It’s funny how you think if you get into the seminar biz that your going to meet some remarkable people… eh eh… lol…. I remember I used to think that it was the flashy people that claimed to have super powers the people who’s sh*t never stunk that were on the right track… It took me a while to realize the real super heroes are the people that are practical, down to earth, reasonable individuals.

Thank you for being one of my super heroes lol
