Never give up. Push till you succeed.
On the surface that sounds like really good advice. It seems like it would be very motivational and very supportive. Unfortunately, it’s the worst advice you could probably get.
Sure you could keep on grinding in the direction that you’re going. You could keep putting mass quantities of effort into things that are not working. You could keep thinking that you’re just not putting in enough hours and eventually every just magically click together.
The truth is the following that advice wastes valuable time doing things that are not working just because all the advice you’re given makes you feel noble for believing in what you’re doing.
Some people keep going in a direction that’s not working just because they really can’t think of anything else to do. They spent years doing something that is just not going to work.
I’m going to give you a bit of advice that’s going to sound absolutely crazy. Learn how to give up.
So what should you do?
1 Get advice from people who don’t care about your feelings.
2 Find people who know what they’re doing and ask questions
3 Be willing to change direction in order to get your outcome.
4 Get your ego out of the way and be willing to admit you’re failing
5 Follow the directions you get from experts.
Many of you know we do coaching. We don’t coach that many people. We are very careful about the people we allow into our coaching program. There are certain things you have to have or are willing to do before we will even talk to you about it.
We don’t coach people who are difficult to teach. The reason is simple. Being difficult to teach is their problem, not mine. I’m not going to waste my time trying I’m trying to argue with someone or convince them that what we’re saying works.
We started a guy in coaching the other day. After going through our acceptance process we decided he would be a good match for us. He was a guy who was running his own business and had zero sales experience. He’d never really heard about us other than from people who recommended us. He has no idea what we do when it comes to anchoring rapport and subconscious sales techniques.
When starting someone new we have this period where we get to know them. Within the 1st 15 minutes, I could tell this guy was going to be a massive success.
Within the 1st 20 minutes, he had five or six “WOW” realizations. If he just uses half of what what we covered in the first hour of his coaching he will make thousands of extra dollars a month.
We haven’t even gotten to anchoring or rapport yet 🙂
By the end of his first hour, we found 10 or maybe 15 things that he right now that will get him more customers and more referrals.
I’m going to give you guys some of the advice that we gave him that might help you right now.
1 Stop doing things the way you’re doing them They’re not working
2 It’s OK to ask people what they want but for telling them what you have to offer.
3 You’re not being pushy by closing the sale. If you think you need to push you are doing it wrong.
This is a pretty bright guy and he realized one thing… he needed to give up trying to make it work and find someone who could help him. Look folks I know it is hard to give things up that you have put a lot of effort into. I am not saying give up your goal… just give up on how you think you need to get there. So… what can you give up doing today?
