OK we have some people here who are interested in doing things. So I have a few questions to ask and here is the first one. Lots of the assets I see are very general so lets get specific.
On the last thing you wanted to do that you actually did, what assets did you use?
Keep thinking about other assets assets as we go through this.

If it's work, that seems to be one set of assets. Play taps into another.
Work (doing dishes, writing a report, painting a room, "getting something done" Assets:
- Ability to "see" the desired outcome in my head
- Ability to break down the logical steps to get from 'before' to 'after'
- Ability to plan out most efficient path to outcome
- Ability to anticipate every likely problem
- Ability to execute the plan
hmm. My wife says I'm a control freak...doesn't everybody think this way?
Play (sports, poker, creating art, making love) Assets:
- Ability to recognize & approximate the core skills involved
- Ability to relax and let it happen
- Ability to recognize feedback and adapt
- Ability to tap into my intuition
- Ability to get into "the flow"
So this is interesting for me already. Maybe I should try applying my "play" assets to my work, and vice versa.
My wife might be in for a bit of a surprise tonight...

Assets used in the last thing I wanted to do that I actually did. Hmmmm.
The following list may not be quite what you mean by asset Tom as they are more about process. However, changing my past behavior to use these processes is definitely helping me to achieve new goals so they are proving huge assets in that sense.
* Decided clearly what I wanted (without getting bogged down in too much detail / analysis)
* Accepted it would be challenging & made a commitment to stay focused and avoid distraction
* Used time planning to schedule set times to work on the goal
* Broke the goal into smaller chunks (without getting bogged down in detail)
* Took immediate action on the current "chunk".
* Did NOT dwell on upsets, mistakes, problems - just move on and take more action.
* Keep taking action. Keep taking action. Keep taking action.
Normally when I have hit a bump in the road I get distracted, I'll waste time, procrastinate etc.
Now, even though I might be feeling bad / upset etc, I'll refocus on what I can do and try to take immediate action to produce a tangible step forward.
I think this is proving to be a great strategy for me.
Even if things are going wrong - as long as I have evidence that I've made tangible progress of some kind I can feel good about that and get re-focused.
By tangible progress I mean some sort of definite result that shows progress - not just analysis, planning or discussion.

I wanted to go out of town for the holiday so there were things that had to be done as far as activities I want to do...resteraunt reservations, visit relatives, etc.
2 more assets that usually are automatic for me: I become "focused" on the preparation to travel and two, I am very"organized"

Okay, wanted to exchange a CD at Best Buy.
Assets used:
- experience and familiarity (done this kind of thing before)
- self-motivation (took action and left the house)
- not easily deterred (fought through traffic to get there)
- willingness to interact (talked to store staff to find right CD)
- not easily bothered (they're sold out of item I wanted)
- used rapport (with exchange counter girl while getting credit)
- logical thinking (figured out where else to look)
- determined (had to check at a couple more stores)
- cool and flexible (more traffic, and sold out everywhere)
- persistant (finally found it)

Bought a Wii system for my son and me. Assets: determination, planning, follow through, creative searching, communication skills, intuition. Determination and follow through may be the same thing. There was a strong desire for the outcome. I am anticipating enjoyment (enough to put a smile on my face) of its use come Christmas.

This sent me thinking about my assets and how I use them. I wanted to specify calibration and anchoring skills that I have. I've used those to elicit and anchor relatives and friends. But then I realized the purpose of that was to practice, I make them laugh, cry (LOL), feel connection, but not for something that I wanted really apart of practicing and having a good time. What would prevent me from doing to actually get something of tangible benefit?, I think that I'd be imagining I'd do it someday but I've being thinking in big stuff, which I perceive require much more ability than I have, which being true or not (I don’t know for sure, I should go and try!! stopped me from actually doing it!, So first I need to set small targets to anchor strangers that come my way (desk clerks, etc.), hey, I haven’t even just try to figure out a small goal and a plan, I’ll think of this tomorrow.
Anyway, I want to answer the question so here it is: I wanted to practice rapport with strangers so I’ve gone several times to cafes and sit there to get rapport with strangers. I posted about a drill that I like it very much about getting the drivers of mischievous, fun and playfulness I got.
Also, I wanted to practice Magic Interview so I started to make cold callings to guys I found in the web. I did like 40 calls. Best result was with a guy (IT Director) who responded very well to my embedded command “you can HELP ME”, he was actually trying to help me and I detected was “abnormally” supportive and care much. Even though he wasn’t hiring he offered to send my curricula to some private association’s he’s member of for publishing in their job boards (a black hole I know LOL). I didn’t pursue that venue though; I didn't actually go to any interview as I got distracted with other stuff. But definitely now I have those calls under my belt as an asset too.

The last BIG thing I wanted and did was to get my driver's license. I made use of:
*My family's support and teaching
*Being able to keep my cool
*Being conscientious of what I'm doing
*Learning from my mistakes
*Being able to control my awareness
*Being able to laugh at myself

Okay the last thing I did was to call the Spanish Consulate to get some paperwork done. The trick was this paper was required by a new law and the consulate here didnt recieve the news yet.
-The guy I had to talk was busy all the time so I called them 15 times in 3 days.(Persistence)
-I also found out his email and emailed him.
-I talked to the lady who connects the calls and made her like me so that she would pass on my situation to the guy. (I took her shape)
-Called the 4th day and the lady already told him about my situation and even addded that it was urgent She connected me to him and this time I talked to the guy who is supposed to hand me the paper. He directly addressed me with my name because he knew me already. I made him laugh a couple of times so the ice was melt.(Humour and Rapport)
-I also arranged a meeting with him. We are gonna meet and I am gonna ask him about how to obtain citizenship easily.( I can be very persuasive with people that dont know me for a short amount of time.)
This is the basic layout.

Sorry Tom, a bit slow with this. I have actually thought about it though ... I found it tough. It kind of depends on what you mean by "the last thing".
For example, this time last week, I had to stay the night in London. When I got to my hotel, the room had a badly fitting window making the room cold, draughty and noisy. When I was checking in, I had established some rapport with the clerk, who told me that they were "full" that night. Anyway, I went back to ask to be moved (using the previous rapport & the positions of power you taught us in Atlanta) and she reminded me, very sweetly, that they were full, but asked (without me suggesting it) if I wanted to talk to her supervisor about it. Yes please. Long story short: established rapport as we went back to the room and when he got there he said "We'll move you" straightaway & he took me to an empty room straight away.
So, what assets did I use here ?
- My sense of clarity: I knew what I wanted.
- I communicated this
- Commitment - I acted
- Persuasion skills e.g. rapport, anchoring & positions of power
BUT, it seems to me that this is a fairly minor thing. In terms of bigger "last things", I actually have to go w-a-y back to 95/96 when I studied for a qualification. Thinking about that, I used these assets ...
- I committed to a course of action: COMMITMENT again.
- TACTICAL THINKING: I broke it in to smaller pieces and worked on each until they were done.
- I followed through on it: DETERMINATION again - there was a lot of deferred gratification.
- I changed tactics if I was off-course: FLEXIBILITY.
Gotta say that that's all I'm coming up with and that I'm slightly disappointed that the last BIG thing that I feel that I achieved for myself was over 10 years ago
