Patterns/scripts....Why they suck
by Tom Vizzini

The discussion of patterns is interesting because for many people they are
the introduction to the concepts of hypnosis and persuasion.

How many of us picked up the hypnosis book and began to read the script and
experiment on ourselves and even some of our friends.  It was like we found
these magical words that can drop somebody into this mysterious trance.

Then reality kicks in.

I'm not sure how many people have had a telemarketer call you up and begin
reading a script.  The amazing thing to me is that some people will still
buy the product after having such a pathetic sales presentations given to
them.  The reason I find these things so offensive is that I know the person
reading the script doesn't know anything about me.  They don't care anything
about me.  They are simply dialing numbers and reading scripts to hit that
small percentage of the population will actually buy a product without ever
actually getting talked TO instead of AT.

Many people talk about patterns of what we really are talking about are
scripts.

For some people they still believe that they can go out and speak these
magic words and get a result.  The truth is that there is a small percentage
of the population who will actually respond to these patterns/scripts.

Why do I think these scripts are so pathetic?  Let me give you three of my
top reasons.

Number one, as long as you are reciting a memorized script you are
completely disconnected from the person in front of you.  You are inside of
your head trying to remember the next part of the script while they are
outside wondering if you're ever really going to look at them or connect to
them.

Number two, if you are reciting a pattern anything that interrupts that
pattern will drop you into a trance where you become helpless and confused.
This has happened so many times to those trying to recite the Instantaneous
Connection pattern.  When they come out of their trance the person they were
talking to is instantaneously connected to somebody else are instantly
buying from someone else.

Number three, this one was demonstrated here.  At some point you run out of
patterns and have to go try to make up more.  You cannot run the same script
on any one person more than once.  This is great if you are really terrible
at making friends because you'll always have to talk to new people.  If by
some chance to actually do make connection with someone you end up on an
e-mail list asking other people that they have any new patterns.

Patterns/scripts are for people who have absolutely no skill.  They are the
lazy man's answer to a pickup line or magic sales script.  The truth is that
most people skilled people have abandoned all patterns because patterns have
proven themselves to be ineffective in the face of someone who has the basic
skills.

These basic skills are:

Vocal influence, the ability to understand how to use your voice to have the
maximum amount of influence no matter what the words you are saying actually
mean.

Rapport, the ability to actually instantaneously connect to people in a way
that elicits trust, confidence and friendship.  This allows people to open
up to you in a way they would never open up to anyone else on the planet.

Calibration, this is the part we actually notice the other person and what
kind of response and they are having to you and to what you are saying.
Unless you are calibrating you have no clue whether you are getting to your
desired goal.

Anchoring, this is the ability to take the feelings you elicit combined with
the trust of your Rapport to generate a trigger.  This simple trigger
becomes the mechanism that allows you to read elicit that state at the push
of a button.  You can actually even attach that button to many different
things that will allow that anchor to be fired off even when you are not
around.

When you have these basic skills something like patterns/scripts becomes an
impediment to your success and not a help to your success.

This is why our first video seminar of the year is going to be on anchoring.
We're going to focus on anchoring opportunities and real-life situations.
In order to anchor you have to be able to have Rapport, use your voice and
calibrate.  This will be Sunday the 27th at 12 o'clock Eastern time in the
Gold Members video area.

Patterns suck because they give you a false sense of being skilled.

Read that again.

Patterns suck because they give you a false sense of being skilled.

Then you have a decision to make.  You can either spend your life constantly
in search of new patterns/scripts are you can actually learn the skills they
allow you to be a powerful communicator and real-world situations.

It's your choice.  All I can do is often the opportunity.
